About Me

I am a portrait artist, specialising in graphite and colour portraits of pets and people. Using photographs, I create life-like drawings that aim to capture the spirit of your pets and loved ones alike.

I am a Brighton girl born and bred, now living in the beautiful county of Derbyshire with my 2 dogs: Molly the fox red lab, and Douglas the cheeky Cocker. 

I’ve always loved art, ever since I can remember; as a kid, I was always fascinated at the ‘photo-realistic’ art in my dad’s books – I was transfixed, and would stare at the pictures for hours trying to understand how the artists were able to draw so accurately! 

I studied art at school and college, (after first choosing ‘food technology’, my art teacher told me he wouldn’t let me not do art! Thank you Mr. Green!) and again, whilst there I remember lots of trips to galleries and staring in awe and wonder at the amazing paintings on display. 

Once I left college, I sort of ‘forgot’ about my passion for art… life got in the way, as happens to most of us I suppose, working a full-time job, and busy with the daily grind of life! 

Only recently did I rediscover my passion, and picked up a pencil again for the first time in years!

What to draw when you haven’t drawn in years? My pets of course! They were my loyal subjects for my first few drawings, and then I soon branched out into portraits of pets and family members for other people.  It has been such an incredible journey of rediscovery, and I am always filled with such joy that my drawings make others happy.

I haven’t quite yet figured out what it is about a drawing of a photograph that makes it somehow more ‘special’ – but I think it has something to do with capturing the ‘spirit’ of the subject in a way that a photograph just can’t, and so this is my aim – to capture the ‘spirit’ for you and to create something for you that you will treasure for years to come!
